Tattoos Without the Commitment

Posted on 25th June 2007 by Kristy in Uncategorized

Do you like the look of tattoos, but not want something permanent on your body? I’ve been there. You can buy some nice-looking temporary tattoos, but it’s just not the same as having an inked work of art on your arm, or ankle, or wherever.

Airbrush tattoos provide a way to get the look of a real tattoo without the commitment. You can have a tattoo of a tropical flower for your vacation in the Bahamas, and replace it with a tough biker tattoo for your cross-country motorcycle trip. Is that cool or what?

Airbrush tattoo store TAT International presents a lucrative opportunity for entrepreneurs. They sell airbrush tattoo supplies, including stencils and how-to videos that can get anyone started in the temporary tattoo business. It’s a great add-on to any existing beauty business, or you could do it by itself.

There’s even an option in which you can design your own stencils, making your temporary tattoos truly unique. They have complete starter kits at huge discounts, and there is even financing available. If you’re looking for a fun and profitable business, check out their website.

Stormy Weather

Posted on 25th June 2007 by Kristy in Uncategorized, weather, writing

We finally got some rain over the weekend and today. We needed it desperately, so I can’t complain about that. What I could have done without was the thunderstorms.

I always turn off and unplug my computer and Internet when it starts storming enough to cause concern. I can’t afford to get a laptop right now, never mind replacing my desktop and modem. I had to do that on several occasions over the weekend, and it put a major dent in my writing time.

Add to that the fact that we’ve had (and still have) company, and I haven’t been able to get much done at all. I finally managed to get one big project done, but I’ve got another big one that I planned on having done by tomorrow to do. And no, I haven’t started on it yet.

Building Sandcastles

Posted on 23rd June 2007 by Kristy in Uncategorized, fun sites, recreation

It would be great to be at the beach right now. I’ve never been myself, but I plan on going as soon as we get the money.

I’m not much of a swimmer, but I like to wade. When I was young we lived about 20 minutes from a sandy lake, and my big sister took me there often during the summer. I had a blast splashing around in the water and playing in the sand. I also loved to build sandcastles.

Beaches Resorts has a fun little website on which you can build sandcastles online. I’ll bet Pumpkin would have a ball with it if she weren’t sleeping in this morning. I’ll have to show it to her and let her play with it later.

In the meantime I made the sandcastle above for her. You’ve got to try this out. It’s easy, and so much fun. First you choose from one of their breathtaking beach settings. Then you can build your very own sandcastle, complete with color, shells, flags, and other beach accessories. There are even peaceful beach sounds playing in the background. It’s quite relaxing.

If you’re busy and broke like me and can’t make it to the beach right now, you can have a little piece of the beach right on your desktop. It would also be a good way to keep the kids busy for a while. :)

Swamped and Misunderstood

Posted on 23rd June 2007 by Kristy in Uncategorized,home business,home life,kids,work,writing

I have a total of 30 articles to turn in by Tuesday. Actually half of them need to be done before then, but I’ve also managed to get a few of them done. Wow.

I like staying busy, but this time of year comes with way too many distractions. Hubby hasn’t been extremely supportive lately, either. He doesn’t like it when I have to stay up late to work. But anything that requires a large amount of research or even concentration is much harder to do during the day while tending to Pumpkin. And in the evenings when Hubby is home, it’s not much better- sometimes he’s like another kid who is starved for attention.

I can’t count on my in-laws to help, either. One day I got off of work at my day job early, and I told Hubby to take Pumpkin over there and tell them that he would pick her up when he got off work. After leaving work, I got home and worked for about an hour before my mother-in-law started calling every 15 minutes, hinting around that I should come get her. I finally gave in. Obviously they’re less understanding than Hubby.

I just don’t get people. They think that just because you work at home, you can sit there and rake in the dough without having to do anything for it. If that was the case, I would be vacationing in the Caribbean instead of sitting here. I mean, if you don’t have to do anything for it, why should it matter where you are?

In that respect, I’ll be glad when school starts up again. Then I’ll have some uninterrupted time during the day to get things done.

Eye Candy for Your Lawn and Garden

Posted on 20th June 2007 by Kristy in Uncategorized, interior decorating, shopping

Now that the weather is nice, I’ve been spending more time outdoors. I love this time of year, even though it gets pretty hot sometimes.

I also like having pretty things to look at when I’m out. I’m not much of a green thumb, so I don’t have a lot of flowers. But I usually get at least a couple of new pieces of lawn decor each year. Online Discount Mart has some beautiful stuff at great prices. I’ve got my eye on a set of colorful sunflowers- the kind you don’t have to water. :)

Online Discount Mart has all sorts of summer goodies, as well as articles to help you come up with great decorating ideas. And their prices are great.

Extra Writing Time

Posted on 19th June 2007 by Kristy in Uncategorized, home life, work, writing

I opened my email yesterday evening to find a message that I had just been assigned 15 articles. Awesome news! They’re going to be a bit of a challenge, but I’m up for it. It’s just finding the time to do them. But I ended up with some unexpected time off from my day job, which is good.

I was scheduled to work today, and I got up bright and early like a good little girl and got ready to go. I was dressed and putting on the final touches when Hubby walked into the bathroom and said my boss was on the phone. She wanted to know if I would like to stay home today, because they had scheduled too many people. I happily accepted.

So I’ve spent the morning writing between bouts of procrastination. I spent an unusual amount of time on my daily post for Web TV Hub, but I think I plunked out a good one. Then I started on the 15 articles, but have yet to finish the first one. But I told them I would need a few days on it, and at least I’m getting a bit of a head start.

I have to step out in an hour or so, so I really need to get crackin’ on those articles. Maybe I’ll actually finish one up before I go.

Get Your Gossip Fix

Posted on 19th June 2007 by Kristy in Uncategorized, celebrity gossip

I like a little bit of good old fashioned celebrity gossip every now and then. It makes me grateful that I’m not living in a fishbowl, and reminds me that even though famous people seem to have it all, the have problems too.

CelebrityGossip.com is a new entertainment gossip website that I’m fond of. It aggregates all of the latest celebrity news, and allows readers to vote on each piece of gossip. Those of us who are too busy to seek out gossip from its many sources can go there and get the latest and greatest from all of them.

If you have a burning need to know the absolute latest on your favorite (or least favorite) celebs, check out Celebrity Gossip. If it’s in the entertainment news headlines, they’ve got it.

Birds

Posted on 15th June 2007 by Kristy in Uncategorized, home life

Yesterday evening we heard a knock at the door. It was our neighbor. She wanted to know if we would take two parakeets off of her hands.

She said that someone had given them to her for her daughter, but they are currently staying with her mother and she would not allow her to keep them. So she thought we might want them for Pumpkin. Way to put us on the spot. But we graciously accepted.

I had been considering getting Pumpkin a small house dog, but I think this will be better. At least we won’t have to worry about all of the vaccinations and house training and all that. The birds’ wings are not clipped, so I’m going to see about having that done. I dread chasing them around enough without having to kill myself doing it.

So we now have two new pets. I just hope Pumpkin enjoys them.

Waterbeds

Posted on 14th June 2007 by Kristy in Uncategorized

I like waterbeds. The first couple of times I slept on one at my aunt’s house I dreamed I was drowning, and that wasn’t too pleasant. But that was outweighed by the fact that I can sleep like a baby on a good one.

I actually don’t have much trouble sleeping any more, but Hubby does. I’ve thought about trying a waterbed to see if it would help him. I had bouts of insomnia when I was younger, but when I started sleeping on a waterbed it virtually disappeared.

I don’t know if waterbeds will make a comeback, but I don’t think they’ll ever be gone completely. Some people don’t like them, but I think they’re the best way to sleep.

Getting My Priorities in Line

Posted on 14th June 2007 by Kristy in Uncategorized, writing

I had a little slowdown in work a couple of days ago, and at that very time a fellow I had started doing some work for but had to put on hold emailed me to see if I was still interested in the job. Good timing.

I wrote back and explained to him that I had had a bunch of work dumped on me, and that my computer was having serious problems. In case I haven’t mentioned it fully here, it’s getting to the point that it cannot handle multiple applications, or even Firefox tabs, very well. Its slowness and the freezing of programs has slowed me down quite a bit, not to mention frustrating me so severely that at times I can hardly see (or think) straight.

Anyway, back to the story. I loved this job, it was just taking more time than I’ve been having due to the aforementioned factors. He said the door was open for the time being, and I sat down and thought long and hard about it. When I don’t have a bunch of work with tight deadlines to do it’s not hard to get in some work on this small job, but I feared that I wouldn’t be able to produce new stuff on a regular basis.

I finally came to the conclusion that I have to stick with it. It’s steady work, and although the pay is not stellar, it’s quite reasonable. But the biggest factor was the fact that it is the most fun job I’ve got. I get to select videos and write little tidbits about them, and I have the freedom to have a blast with it. And I need something that allows me to cut loose. I have this and another blog where I can be myself, but they’re dedicated to primarily family-type things. And while Mom is by far the most important title I’ll ever have, I’ve got to indulge my fun-loving side sometimes. And this job forces me to do it regularly.
