Last week I was going into fits because I had no writing to do. All I had to do each day was a blog post or two. I scoured job boards and applied for jobs all week, only to be met with complete and utter silence.
The one person who did get back to me said she would make a decision by the end of the day on Friday, and when I heard nothing by then I assumed I hadn’t gotten it. I more or less took the weekend off, and resumed my job search today.
Then a couple of hours ago, work began virtually falling out of the sky. A lady from my main “steady” gig that hasn’t been so steady contacted me, wanting to know if I would be interested in more assignments this month. She also asked what I could do besides writing for another project. I wrote her an email, sent it off, and shortly thereafter I got an email from the lady from Friday.
She said the job was mine if I wanted it! It’s a huge project with a tight deadline, and the pay per word isn’t spectacular but the total amount would really help me out right now. She asked if I wanted to do the whole thing or just half, and I told her half would be fine. Even that much would be a huge boost for our finances.
Then just a few minutes ago I heard back from a job I applied for today! The pay on it is pretty good, and it could lead to more work. I don’t know what to do about that one. If I take it I’ll be working about 24/7. What’s a girl to do???
I guess that’s part of being a freelancer. It’s a bit of a roller coaster ride. I’ll be glad when these windfalls of work get us far enough ahead that I won’t have to worry about the slow times so much.
