Who Needs Box Springs?

Uncategorized No Comments »

Platform beds are a great way to replace an old, unsightly box spring mattress. They offer much more flexibility in style and in using the space below the mattress. Box springs used to be almost a necessity to make sure there was enough support, but modern mattresses are of such high quality and thickness that box springs are generally superfluous. This allows you to acquire a beautiful platform bed, adding beauty and uniqueness to your bedroom. They can be used in conjunction with a regular mattress or a futon mattress. You can shop for one now on Platformbedsonline.com.

Prescription Drugs Are Expensive

Uncategorized, health No Comments »

Right now, we have insurance covering our medical bills and prescription drugs. But once upon a time we weren’t so lucky. Hubby had to get some stomach medicine at one point, and when we took it to the pharmacy, they said it would be $150 a month. He had to wait on it, because we didn’t have the money at the time.

That $150 is nothing compared to what some people have to pay. My mom is on several prescription drugs, and if she had to pay full price for them, they would be around $1,000 a month. Up until she was old enough for Medicare, she had to get them through those indigent prescription assistance programs. That wasn’t such a bad thing, because through them she got all but two of them for free. And on the ones she had to pay for, she got a significant discount.

But once she was able to get Medicare, she was no longer eligible for the assistance. She now has to pay for Medicare Part D coverage. It’s better than paying full price for all of her medicines, but it still takes a big chunk of her fixed income.

I realize that prescription drugs are expensive to create due to research and all. But there’s got to be some way to make them less of a burden on those who need them but have very little money. I plan read up on the issue, and I’ll post about my findings when things calm down for me.

Getting Ready to Move

home life No Comments »

I hope that everything will be taken care of so that we can move before the middle of the week. Now I just need to get everything packed up so that we can move.

Pumpkin already has most of her toys packed up, and I’ve been working on getting the clothes packed. Most of the pictures are off of the walls. But there’s so much more left to do. Once I get my work caught up, I’m going to have to do some serious packing.

I’m going to miss this place. It was the first home we ever owned, even if we didn’t own the land it was on. We’ve had some really good times here. Maybe we did have to deal with crappy neighbors, and maybe the walls were too flimsy to hold up a plasma TV with a plasma mount, but it was home. And until we have to leave, it still is.

Cutting It Close

We had a closing date set for our house, but we’re not going to make it by then. I hope it’s not pushed back more than a couple of days, because if it is, we won’t have anywhere to go.

We started getting the runaround from the guy who was buying our mobile home, and we decided to call another guy who was interested and let him come look at it since time was running out. He came, he liked it, and he said he would get the money. We told him that if he brought the money first, it was his. Then when we told the other guy, he had a change of heart and said he would pay the following morning. I tried to get in touch with the first guy to find out if he was going to get it for sure, but had no luck. To make a long story short, the first guy got it, and the other guy is very angry at us.

Anyway, we got the money in the bank in what we thought was plenty of time, but the lender slacked and didn’t get the paperwork done in time. So it looks like we will be closing at least a day later than we thought, maybe more. And we signed an agreement that we would be out by 2 days after what we were told was the closing date, so if it goes any longer than that, we’re going to have problems. Great.

It may also cost us more money since it’s being delayed. That’s just peachy, especially since we barely have enough to cover the closing and pay the bills as it is. I’ll be so glad when this is all over with.

Donations and affiliate purchases are still most welcome. The closing costs should be covered by the skin of our teeth, but we’re going to be hard pressed to have enough money to get moved. We may end up borrowing wheelbarrows and pushing a load at a time over there. At least that way we’ll get plenty of exercise out of the deal.

Unique Interiors

Uncategorized, interior decorating No Comments »

When I was younger, I considered going into interior design. I now know that would have probably have been a mistake, but I still have a love for furnishings and home décor. I’ve always had a fondness for retro pieces, but I also like newer trends such as contemporary Asian stuff.

Contemporary Asian furniture has become extremely popular with people trying to create an exotic and impressive ambiance. The selection is much more varied than you might think, and is not limited to traditional Asian styles. The contemporary spin on modern Asian furniture offers a wide array of decorative choices. You can incorporate a few pieces into your existing décor, or you can use Asian furniture exclusively to create your own unique tribute to an incredible culture with a modern edge. Either way, be prepared to have many conversations about your exotic new additions from Tansu.net.

Got No Time

I have been running around like a chicken with its head cut off, figuratively speaking. Today I didn’t go anywhere, but I was back and forth on the phone with people all day trying to get everything lined up so that we can close on our house. All of the loose ends should be tied up tomorrow, and if so we will be good to go to close on schedule.

All of this has really taken its toll on me. I feel like I should be checking in for drug treatment or something. But unfortunately this hasn’t just been a great big party. I’m just praying for a happy ending to it all, so that we can finally be free of landlords and all of the other headaches that come with renting. No offense to any landlords out there. I’ve had a couple of good ones, but they are in short supply in this area.

Enjoying the Weather

Spring is here, and you know what that means: Warmer weather! Our soon-to-be home has a covered porch in the front and an uncovered patio out back, so I’m going to be looking at outdoor furniture options as soon as possible.

Resin wicker furniture, found at Patioproductions.com, is some of the most versatile and beautiful furniture around. It can be used successfully indoors or outdoors, and can be made to compliment almost any décor. Furthermore, it is virtually invincible in all weather conditions, due to its strong but flexible synthetic material. That’s very important here in the mountains! And even though it is incredibly durable, resin wicker furniture is lightweight and easy to move around. It’s your best choice for outdoor furniture, since it will last you for years no matter what you spill on it or what nature throws at it.

A Good Night’s Sleep

Memory foam mattresses have become increasingly popular in the last few years. It seems to be a symptom of a larger concern that Americans have with their health in general, and sleep in particular. Some research has shown that a memory foam mattress can actually help the user sleep more deeply, by reducing the amount of times the sleeper awakens at night.

Without a memory foam mattress, almost no one sleeps through the night undisturbed. In fact, most of us wake up, if only slightly, as many as a hundred times during our slumber. The small disturbances are caused mostly by discomfort. Because of the way most of our mattresses function, pressure builds up and causes us to switch positions during the night. Although we may not fully awake during these episodes, they are enough to disrupt important deep sleep patterns. Memory foam mattresses help users get the deep rejuvenating sleep they need.

Memory foam mattresses used to be prohibitively expensive for all but the very wealthy, but as Americans become more health conscious, rising demand has spurned new companies to enter the memory foam mattress market. Today there are a number of companies producing quality memory foam at a fraction of what it used to cost.

I Hate Yard Sales

Well, I had my yard sale Friday and yesterday. Guess how much I made? A whopping $50!

Yes, I know, that’s $50 more than I had. But I barely sold anything, and I could have made more money staying home and getting some of my writing work done.

We just didn’t have a good turnout. I put it in the local trading post paper, and I had Hubby put up a sign at the turnoff from the highway on Friday morning. As it turned out, the place where he had put the sign wasn’t very easy to see coming up the road. And the wind had blown it until it wrapped around the post, making it very difficult to read.

I had a laminated sign that they had given me at the newspaper office when I placed my ad that I had at the end of his grandpa’s driveway, and I thought maybe I’d have better luck if I put that up at the highway on Saturday. But the only posts that were up there were metal, so I had no choice but to tape it up. I taped it securely, and wasn’t worried about it because that’s what Hubby had done with the other sign and it was still there.

Well, the wind started blowing fiercely. Hubby and I had to run out to town and left his mom in charge of things, and when we went by it was still up. But when we came back, the wind had picked up some more and blown it away. I put up another paper sign, but it ended up blowing away too.

All in all, the whole thing was nothing but a big waste of time. If you account for the food we had to buy because there was nothing to eat at his grandpa’s, we made about $30 or $35. And we didn’t get rid of much clutter at all.

We may have a couple more things sold, but the people who are interested in them don’t have the money yet. We left everything over at his grandpa’s until we get moved. Once we do, I may just give it all away or donate it to charity. I’m tired of looking at it.

Oh, and I’ve sworn off yard sales. I don’t think I would have had much worse luck putting the stuff in the paper, and I would have been able to sell it at my convenience instead of wasting two days standing around for nothing. So next time that’s probably what I’ll do.

Sprucing Up the Yard

If all goes well with the home purchase, we’re going to have a lot of work to do. The house itself is livable, but it needs some repairs. The garage/outbuilding needs extensive work according to Hubby. And I’ve never really been a green thumb, but I’m thinking about prettying up the yard with a nice garden.

Often we design a garden with our favorite plants and exotic flowers, and still feel like the ambiance is lacking a certain something. Garden fountains from Gofountains.com are a great way to fill that aesthetic void. Perhaps most impressive is the versatility offered by a garden fountain, in both the variety of available uses and in selection of style and material. If you choose your color correctly, a garden fountain will vastly improve the look of any area of your yard, as well as adding the tranquil sound of flowing water to your surroundings.
