Well, I had my yard sale Friday and yesterday. Guess how much I made? A whopping $50!

Yes, I know, that’s $50 more than I had. But I barely sold anything, and I could have made more money staying home and getting some of my writing work done.

We just didn’t have a good turnout. I put it in the local trading post paper, and I had Hubby put up a sign at the turnoff from the highway on Friday morning. As it turned out, the place where he had put the sign wasn’t very easy to see coming up the road. And the wind had blown it until it wrapped around the post, making it very difficult to read.

I had a laminated sign that they had given me at the newspaper office when I placed my ad that I had at the end of his grandpa’s driveway, and I thought maybe I’d have better luck if I put that up at the highway on Saturday. But the only posts that were up there were metal, so I had no choice but to tape it up. I taped it securely, and wasn’t worried about it because that’s what Hubby had done with the other sign and it was still there.

Well, the wind started blowing fiercely. Hubby and I had to run out to town and left his mom in charge of things, and when we went by it was still up. But when we came back, the wind had picked up some more and blown it away. I put up another paper sign, but it ended up blowing away too.

All in all, the whole thing was nothing but a big waste of time. If you account for the food we had to buy because there was nothing to eat at his grandpa’s, we made about $30 or $35. And we didn’t get rid of much clutter at all.

We may have a couple more things sold, but the people who are interested in them don’t have the money yet. We left everything over at his grandpa’s until we get moved. Once we do, I may just give it all away or donate it to charity. I’m tired of looking at it.

Oh, and I’ve sworn off yard sales. I don’t think I would have had much worse luck putting the stuff in the paper, and I would have been able to sell it at my convenience instead of wasting two days standing around for nothing. So next time that’s probably what I’ll do.
