I’ve always loved the look of a nice chandelier. I’ve never picked out and purchased one of my own, but one day I will. Here are some things that are good to know if you are considering a chandelier:

Once you have decided on a style and made your purchase, placement of your new chandelier is probably the most important thing to consider. There are a few things to remember when deciding on a location. Firstly, you must understand that the primary purpose of a chandelier is decorative; they are not meant to be the main light source in a room. So make sure you have chosen a room with other light sources to bolster the light from your chandelier.

Secondly, you should place your new fixture in a room that is of the proper size. Typically, you will not want to place chandeliers in a room which is too large, which will tend to make it look dwarfed. This can be worse than not having a chandelier at all.

Thirdly, you will want to consider height from the ceiling. You will want to have some breathing room between the crystal chandelier and the roof. However, if the chandelier is too low, it will become cumbersome and even dangerous. You don’t want your chandelier sitting on your dining room table! You will want to place it high enough so that it will not be in the way, but low enough that it can dominate the room in the way that a chandelier should.

Finally, keep in mind that crystal chandeliers can be a dust magnet, especially one with many nuances and crevices. You can avoid this by buying a simpler chandelier in the first place. However, if you have purchased a very complex, ornate chandelier, you will also want to keep it accessible enough that you will be able to clean it as necessary.
