On My Wish List: A Massage Chair

Posted on 5th April 2008 by Kristy in Uncategorized

Massage chairs have a come a long way in the past few years. As massage therapy has gained popularity, a lot more people have also started to see the health benefits of a massage chair. They’re not as effective as a massage therapist of course, but massage chairs today are surprisingly advanced, and they can be a good substitute for expensive and inconvenient massage therapy sessions.

Today’s shiatsu massage chairs, as they are now known, have small rollers or nodes that act like the hands of a massage therapist, imitating the kneading and deep tissue tapping movements used by therapists. These shiatsu massage chairs are capable of a wide range of functions, and can be adjusted for individual bodies. No two people are alike, and advanced software allows these massage chairs to actually adjust for various body sizes and shapes.

Some of these shiatsu massage chairs cost up to $7,000, and with prices like that you may think that the people buying massage chairs are all super-wealthy individuals. That’s partially true, many of the “luxury” shiatsu massage chairs are intended not for health care but simply for fun and relaxation. However, since these chairs are such an effective treatment for various diseases, these chairs are also purchased by people of more modest means. Compared with surgery and prescription drugs, even a $3,000 massage chair can be an economical medical treatment for those on a budget.
