I was a little premature with the whole getting back to normal thing. On Wednesday, our basement flooded once again. Not nearly as bad as the first time, and not bad enough to hurt anything, but bad enough to let us know that there was more work we needed to do.
Since it was raining, Hubby’s crew didn’t work, so he crawled under the house to inspect. A friend of ours didn’t work either, and he showed up to help. They ended up digging a trench from beside the patio to the existing trench to divert the water that was ponding up out there, and putting up new (actually used, but in good shape) guttering out back.
Meanwhile, we rented a pump to get the water out of the basement. I took it back, and lo and behold, it rained again that evening. We ended up with more water down there, but this time it came in from the front. It wasn’t much, and it would have drained out if the drain weren’t so clogged up. Hubbs managed to get it to drain, but it still keeps clogging and leaving water in the floor every time it rains a little.
Our main priority now is getting the drain fixed. Hubby says he can fix the problem out front, but it won’t be a quick fix. But if we can just get what goes in to drain, I think we’ll be okay until he can do it. We’ve been asking around trying to borrow a drain snake and had no luck, but I think my mom is going to send us the money to rent one.
At least the past couple of days have been better than most this month. I’m just so ready to quit worrying constantly and making trips to the hardware store and looking at faucets online and getting ready to hit the order button, only to find out that’s not the problem. I’m happy to be a homeowner, and I wouldn’t go back to renting for the world, but sometimes it’s full of headaches.
