We’ve been getting even more rain here. We got a slight reprieve from the heavy stuff for a week or so, not a complete stop to the rain, but considerably less of it. But now it’s back full force.
We’ve had more than our fair share of storms during the past few days. And when they get close, I always turn off the computer, cut off the surge protector and unplug the modem from the phone line. I know the surge protector is supposed to prevent any damage, but what can I say? I’m paranoid that lightning might damage my computer and leave me with no way to get my work done. It’s kind of like when I worked in retail or restaurants and was afraid to use their POS systems when it was storming. I’m sure they took precautions to prevent anyone from getting electrocuted, but it still scared me.
Our basement drain still isn’t functioning properly. I bought some drain cleaner yesterday and poured the whole bottle down it. I waited 30 minutes as the instructions said to, and went back down there with a bottle of hot water. But water was still standing. Hubby checked it this morning and it was gone, so maybe it just took a little more time to work. I hope so.
The window in my office is also leaking, because there’s something up with the guttering above it. They just replaced it, but something still isn’t right. Last night it was dripping all the way across, and at one point there was a steady stream of water running out at one place. I had to move my printer and modem to keep them from getting damaged and keep switching out towels so the water wouldn’t go everywhere.
And then there’s all the mud outside. It’s supposed to rain every day this week, and I’m having an Oscar Mayer House Party on Saturday. The forecast isn’t calling for any rain on that day, but I’m sure it will be seriously muddy by then. And Hubby probably won’t get to mow the yard, so the outside is just going to be a mess.
I wish all this friggin rain would just go away already! It seems like we either have a drought or it’s raining all the time. Can’t there be a happy medium?

I am with you on the rain . . . we recently had to move back to a vacant property that we owned after we failed to sell it last year. Last August someone burned down our barn; then between August and October some time a racoon took up residence in the attice; in October we returned to do some cleaning and even though the water had been turned off for the winter, we had to turn it back on to clean up the racoon doo doo, and then we forgot to turn it off again; in December the pipes burst and flooded the basement all the way up to the rafters . . . but since we were not living here we didn’t know it for a l-o-n-g time and it flooded the first floor bedroom and ruined the w/h and furnace (only 3 years old) in the basement and cost us $250 for a monthly water bill. Good news is that the racoon drowned :). After we moved in to the house in February, the torrential rains started and we nearly lost the $550 water heater we had just put in (haven’t bought a new furnace yet). A couple of times that scenario happened where the pump couldn’t keep up and water whoosed in from the crawlspace bringing mud and water with it (woke up to the dreamy sounds of a waterfall in the basement). A couple nights ago, that happened again and the pump came disconnected and I think the w/h is gone again . . . another $550!!
Now, I’m not even discussing the electrical problem or the yard. But I am OK with it because we are getting things done a little at a time. But I am ready for the rain to slow down, too. Maybe then we can get a chance to do some landscaping and get the water to stop flooding the crawlspace and then the basement . . . and the insurance company said they would pay us for doing debris removal on the barn if we did it ourselves, which we have to fit in there somewhere before the end of August.

Whoa! And I thought we were having a hard time! Best of luck to you getting everything fixed.
I just found out that our basement drain is still clogged up pretty badly, and at the same time that I’m definitely going to need a new washer. But hey, it’s not raining today. That’s something to be happy about.

Kristy, Well the new water heater is a goner!! We are heading out today to find another one. It’s been a little overwhelming lately, but we’re doing OK. Thanks for the good wishes.
BTW, what is an Oscar Mayer party??
