Should I Sell My Truck?

Posted on 1st June 2010 by Kristy in Uncategorized, cars

Today Hubby called from his cousin’s garage and asked me if I would be interested in selling my truck. Apparently he knows of two people who are interested.

I was planning on taking the insurance off of my truck, but only because it needs work and can’t be driven right now due to the risk of damage to the bed. The plan was to take off the full coverage we have on it, pay the small amount of insurance that the loan company requires us to pay them until the loan is paid in full, and then use the money we were putting toward truck payments to get it fixed. It really doesn’t need much work.

Honestly, at this point in time, I’d rather sell my car. I’m afraid to drive it at the moment, because the throttle was sticking. What if I were to get out on one of these curvy mountain roads with Pumpkin in the car and have that happen? Hubby says it’s fixed, but I’m still pretty leery of it. And even if that is fixed, the windows won’t roll down and the AC doesn’t work, which makes for a sweltering ride in the summer.

But I know I can get a lot more out of my truck than my car. It’s newer, and it has 4WD (even though that part needs some work too, it still makes it more valuable). And cosmetically, it’s in great shape other than the dent in the bottom of the bed (which can be straightened out and is covered by a bedliner.) It doesn’t come with a Good Sam extended service plan, but it is a good, solid truck.

I guess I’ll probably sell it if the buyer will give me enough money. It would certainly be nice to be able to pay off that loan and pay Hubby’s truck loan down some too. We shall see.

What List Am I on Now?

Posted on 1st June 2010 by Kristy in blogging

I hate being spammed. I have spam filters not only on my email program, but also set up on my web hosting for my domain email addresses. Most of the time, they do a pretty good job of catching all the crap. But sometimes some gets through.

For the past week or so I’ve had a bunch of spam, not about penny stocks or the best diet pills, but from people wanting to exchange links. It’s coming through my contact form, so I’m assuming that someone has put my blog on one of those lists of people to contact about such things. Probably some pseudo-guru that’s selling a product that’s supposed to help bloggers and webmasters get better search engine rankings.

These haven’t been the form letters that I’ve gotten in the past, but they all follow pretty much the same formula. “I visited your site, found it useful, and have linked/am considered linking to it. Please consider linking to mine.” And in most cases, it’s from sites whose subject matter is not even remotely related to mine.

Anyway, I’m just here to say that if you found out about my blog from someone who is trying to help you up your pagerank, don’t bother writing me. You won’t hear back, because I don’t respond to such emails due to the fact that if I did, the author would then have my email address. And how do I know that you’re not just a serial spammer?

On the other hand, if you ran across my blog on your own and have a relevant proposition you’d like me to consider, I’m willing to hear you out. I am also open to placing advertising in the sidebar and doing honest, fully disclosed product and site reviews. I’m not against helping out fellow bloggers and webmasters, but my time is valuable and I don’t want to waste it reading messages from people who just want links no matter where they come from.
