Vacating in the Outer Banks

Posted on 26th September 2010 by Kristy in mental health, recreation, travel

I wish this post could be about my upcoming visit to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Lots of sun, sand and fun, and no shortage of fun things to do. A good time for myself and my family, just enjoying being with each other and enjoying life in general.

Unfortunately, this post is just a dream. But it’s a rather detailed dream, as you will see. That’s because I already have the perfect beach house in mind for our Outer Banks rental: The Seahawk, which is pictured below:

Seahawk Beach House

Nice, huh? But wait until you hear about all that lovely structure has to offer:

  • Two master bedrooms with king beds, one bedroom with queen bed, two twin beds, a pyramid bunk and a futon. That’s enough room to bring along whatever part of the family we’re not feuding with at the time! Or better yet, some good friends that we can actually have fun with.
  • A private pool, so that when the ocean gets to be a bit much, you can chill with the family in seclusion. And if you want to get even more private, there’s a hot tub!
  • Tons of media options, with several TVs, DVD players and VCRs, plus a large video library for those nights in. And don’t worry, die-hard gamers, there’s also an X-Box to keep you occupied.
  • A game room/sports bar, complete with pool table, gas grill and more. Sahweet!

So why would my family and I love a week’s stay in beautiful Seahawk, you ask? A better question might be, why wouldn’t we? But here are a few of the first reasons to come to mind.

  • My husband and I never went on a honeymoon. As a family, the Husband, Daughter and I have never been on a proper family vacation. We could wrap all of that into one awesome vacation by taking someone who could do stuff with Pumpkin while we did couples stuff, and spend the rest of the time doing the whole family thing.
  • My husband and I have been through a lot lately. He has had some health problems that could leave him permanently disabled, and that has led to bouts of depression. I’ve dealt with depression off and on all my life, and was in deeper than I had ever been up until a couple of months ago, when my doctor gave me medication that actually seemed to work. Now we need to get out and have some fun and celebrate life!
  • Here’s a nice, practical reason for you. We’re close enough to the Outer Banks that driving there would be a viable option. That means we would only have to budget for gas mileage, not a plane ticket. And we could see parts of beautiful North Carolina that we’ve never seen before along the way!

Well, there’s my Outer Banks dream in a nutshell. Here’s hoping that one day, while we’re all still young enough to enjoy it to the fullest, it comes true.

What’s Your Dream Vacation?

Posted on 19th July 2008 by Kristy in travel

I’d love to take a nice, long vacation. It’s something that I’ve never really done- I’ve been on trips when I was in high school, and my parents took me to amusement parks and stuff sometimes as a kid, but I’ve never really been on a true vacation. I probably wouldn’t know what to do if I got the opportunity.

I wouldn’t mind going to the beach, but I’d really like to go to an exotic one. Maybe in Jamaica or somewhere like that. And I do love amusement parks, but I’d want to go to a big one with lots of other stuff to do in the area. I like the idea of a road trip, too, but paying for gas would cost a small fortune these days.

I guess everyone has their own ideas of what makes a great vacation. My brother-in-law, for example, would probably like nothing better than an Orlando golf trip. Not my cup of tea, but to each his own. I wouldn’t mind visiting Orlando at all, but I’m just not into golf.

So where would you go on your dream vacation? Feel free to share in the comments.

The Mountains Are Driving Me Crazy

Posted on 27th January 2008 by Kristy in Uncategorized, home life, travel

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I’m fortunate to live in what I consider one of the most beautiful areas I’ve ever seen. But sometimes you just need a change of scenery. The mountains can be especially monotonous in the winter, and I would just about give my right arm for a vacation.

I really hope we get to go somewhere this year. I will settle for somewhere like Tweetsie Railroad if I have to, but I would love to go somewhere I’ve never been before. I’ve never been to the beach, and although it hasn’t hurt my feelings terribly, I think going somewhere like the Outer Banks could be just what the doctor ordered.

There are plenty of beaches that are not too terribly far from here. Who knows, maybe we’ll end up going to one of them.

Vacating

Posted on 14th January 2008 by Kristy in Uncategorized, home life, travel

I really hope we can go somewhere this summer. I’m not going to get my hopes up and start comparing prices on beach resorts or even Branson hotels. But it would be great if we could just take a little day trip or two. Hubby, Pumpkin and I all need a vacation very badly.

If we can get the money together before summer gets here, I would settle for season passes to Tweetsie Railroad. Pumpkin loves it, and it would at least break the monotony for me to go there a few times. They don’t have a lot of great rides or anything, but I like the scrambler and the train.

Summer is still a while off. Maybe things will fall into place by then.

Who Needs a Hotel Anyway?

Posted on 2nd April 2007 by Kristy in Uncategorized, recreation, travel

I have always wanted to go to Disney World. One of my coworkers is planning a trip there this summer, and I must admit that I’m green with envy. One day I will get to go there.

Lodging is one of the biggest concerns when going somewhere like that. You have to really be on top of things to find an affordable hotel room when going to such a popular attraction. But at Homes.OrlandoVacation.com, you can find great deals on vacation homes near Disney World for rent. Talk about having it made! And it’s not like Disney World is all that the Orlando area has to offer. Anyone who rents a vacation home there can enjoy numerous other theme parks, golf courses, and many other family-friendly attractions.

There are some great homes available at even better prices. If you’re thinking about going to Orlando, take a look. You’d be surprised at just how affordably you could stay in one.

A Change of Plans

Posted on 8th February 2007 by Kristy in Uncategorized,home life,mountain living,travel

I was scheduled to work tomorrow and have the weekend off. I was thinking about going to visit my mom. But that’s not going to happen.

Hubby is gone right now to take his mom and dad to the hospital in the next county over. His dad has to have a sleep study done, and he’s not supposed to be driving until they get everything all sorted out. Hubby has to pick them up early tomorrow morning. I told my boss that I would be late tomorrow, and she decided to let me off tomorrow and have me work on Saturday.

So I guess there will be no visiting for me this weekend. I haven’t seen my mom since a couple of days before Christmas, so I was looking forward to it. I’m glad I didn’t mention it to Pumpkin, because she would have been really disappointed. Hopefully we’ll get up there some time soon.
